Gold Filled or (G.F) is created when a sheet of gold (usually 14K gold) is mechanically bonded to the surface of a base metal such as brass. In the U.S., by law, G.F must contain at least 5% gold on the exterior of the item. G.F. jewelry contains 100 times more gold than gold plated jewelry thus making it a very durable product. Gold Filled can be cleaned by dipping it in jewelry cleaning solution or buffing with a polishing cloth.

Sterling silver or .925 silver refers to an alloy of silver with another metal. This alloy strenghtens the jewelry item and improves it's durability. The value of .925 placed on sterling silver refers to the percent composition of 92.5% fine silver and 7.5% alloy. The alloy used is usually copper. Silver darkens when it reacts with sulfur in the air or on surfaces it comes in contact with.Unlike silver plated jewelry, sterling silver jewelry can be cleaned by dipping in a jewelry cleaner or using a polishing cloth in order to returned its original brightness. With regular cleaning, sterling silver jewelry will last a lifetime.
